another take: clay herb markers
I decided that it was time to make some markers for my little window herb garden. I found a great tutorial for making garden markers out of clay.
For details on forming the clay visit this tutorial.
Rather than using white clay, I started with Sculpey III clay that was tinted black.
I formed my clay and stamped with rubber letter stamps.
I rubbed in some white chalk over the ends of the clay to make the letters show up better. Before baking the chalk was not very visible (it sort of absorbed into the clay), but it showed up nicely during the baking process.
After baking some of the chalk rubbed off, but some was baked right into the clay. I haven't dunked this in water, but I did test getting them a little wet and it seems that the chalk is set into the clay, which is cool because I don't have to be careful while watering.
I love my new markers and they look so pretty in the little pots...

that's cute the way you did a reverse chalkboard stamped lettering. Even better if it does turn out to be waterproof!

What an adorable idea! Going right on my "to do" list.
Great idea! I want to start growing my own herbs, definitely going to pin this for later use!
These are charming. I love the chalk technique- they look great.
These look great, just wish I could grow herbs to warrant the use of them!
What a cute idea! Silly question but they wont absorb the water?
