me: laptop case craft failure

This is a heartbreaking story of craft failure.  There's no doubt about it, craft fails suck.

I received a new laptop for my birthday.  I love it and I wanted to make a beautiful case to carry it in.

First I pieced together some pretty scraps of fabrics.

I added some pretty zig zag stitching.

I appliqued a pretty corduroy Apple logo.

Then I sewed it all together and sewed together a lining.

I checked to make sure that my laptop fit, not too snug, not too loose.  Just perfect.

And then it all went wrong...

I added some batting for laptop protection and sewed it all together.  Adding batting made my case too small.

Duh, right?

Now I have a very pretty Apple logo "purse" that I can't fit my laptop into.

I guess I'll have to cut it down and try again, but I just don't have the heart right now.

Sigh.

Do you have a heartbreaking craft fail story?

Ha! Most of my crafting adventures are fail stories! But, I expect it, so they're not heartbreaking.

Cute case - or it will be when you get it just right!

I have MANY fail stories... :) I try to turn them around and make the failed craft useful for something... sometimes it just goes in the trash though.

It did turn out fabulous despite the fact it's a bit too small.

Oh so many fails! Except I keep them and tell myself they're just not done yet... Ha.

Check out craftfail.com and you'll feel better :)

Love your blog!

I did the same thing when I made my kindle case -- next time we'll both know. On the up side -- that is an adorable case you made!

I am about to make one for my son - but have been putting it off because I want to use some dense foam to really help cushion and I don't know how to allow for all of it. You did the right thing - plunging in. You can always turn it into a tote for your accompanying notebooks, pens or plug-ins.

What a bummer. It's so freakin' cute!

Aww! It's beautiful! It will be a great tote to use for anything, but I feel your pain!

Oh no, that is a shame that it is too small. It looks so pretty :)
Keep at it though, I am sure you can make it fit nicely.
I have that all the time with knitting, I was in tears at one point because things were going wrong so much.

First of all let me say that this is absolutely adorable! Secondly, I would not take it apart. Instead make it into a handbag to hold your laptop accessories (cords, backup battery, cordless mouse, etc).

SO cute and I love the color combination....something I struggle with. I'm SO happy to hear that others have craft failure! Don't let this project get you down. Like my Dad always said: "Measure twice, cut once." =))

Have you thought about cutting that apart and adding a border of fabric around the edges to make it the right size? That's so cute I think it could work if you just added a border. Just a thought.....

That is very cute! Maybe if you bought an iPad it would fit in there?!

I did the same thing for my iPad. Now i have a stupid long padded thing with a zipper that has no use at all...
